Lesson Learned... - by Christy Przystawik

We have thoroughly enjoyed two weeks of vermicomposting lessons with the PreK3, PreK4, and Kindergarten classes at Peabody. Our studies have included paper worm weaving, book reading, learning about a worm's diet and how to care for our worm bins, building our worm bins, and creating models of worms with play dough and labeling their major body parts. I'm especially excited that this two week study culminated in a package arriving on my front porch containing 2,000 worms for our bins! I brought the bag of worms into Peabody Thursday morning and my curiosity got the best of me-I opened the bag to take a quick peak. So cool! Little did I know that I had not closed the bag all the way before I left the classroom and when I returned, the worms were escaping! Below is a short video of what I found before I quickly put them back in the bag. Lesson learned: Never leave 2,000 worms unattended in the classroom!
