FRESHFARM's food education program in partnership with DC Public Schools

FoodPrints is an education project of FRESHFARM that integrates gardening, cooking, and nutrition education into the curriculum at partner elementary schools. Watch the FoodPrints video to see our program in action.

Happy FoodPrints Friday!

Friday is here! This week, our awesome team taught 30 FoodPrints lessons! That's over 600 lucky students who got to work in the garden, study and harvest plants, learn about the journey food makes from field to plate, cook their very own delicious snacks, and eat foods that will help shape their healthy eating preferences for years to come.

One highlight this week was spending some quality time with our chickens at SWS before they're picked up by Rent-A-Coop for the week of Thanksgiving. Students drew portraits of the chickens and wrote them goodbye letters.

Students make close observations of our friendly school chickens.

We LOVE our chickens!

Chicken art critic.

"Dear Cutie and Candy, I hope you always remember my love."

At Peabody, students observed Swiss chard leaves and radishes on the light table.

A lightbox is a perfect way to get a close look at the plants we eat.

Vegetables are beautiful.

Students scoop the flesh and seeds out of pumpkins to create a seasonal serving vessel for soup.

Knife skills are one of the most important things we learn in FoodPrints.

We use Blik dry erase wall decals to let everyone know our menu, what we're using from the garden, and what we source from our FRESHFARM Markets farmers.
