It's the Life Cycle - by Margi Fineran
I thought I would be devastated on the day we had to cut down the sunflowers that surrounded the SWS school garden. They had created a wonderful atmosphere of joy, wonder and inspiration around the garden this year. But even the act of cutting them down has been its own sense of joy as the children learn to work together on the task of cutting, then measuring and recording the tallest sunflower in the garden (11 feet, 2 inches!). As we bring the pieces of the plant to the compost pile and the children harvest the last of the seeds in the flower heads we are all wondering just how big will the sunflowers grow next year. As we take the sunflowers down, the kindergartners' art inspired by the sunflowers, has gone up at the Hill Center. Make a visit!
